HR Advisor (20 – 32 hours per week job based in Curaçao)

 

YOUR CHALLENGE

We are looking for a skilled and driven HR Advisor who excels at translating strategic HR policies into practical, impactful actions on the work floor. In this role, you will be instrumental in fostering a culture where employees thrive, with a strong focus on vitality, engagement, and positioning our organization as an Employer of Choice. You will help bring our HR themes such as Fit for Life, Fit for BDO to life, promoting well-being and sustainable employability across the organization.

You’ll manage recruitment processes, support employee development, monitor performance, and handle key administrative tasks. Importantly, your scope will not be limited to Curaçao, you will also provide HR support to our teams in Sint Maarten and Bonaire, ensuring consistent and people-focused HR practices across all islands. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise management and employees on HR-related issues, including employment law, terms and conditions of employment, career development, performance management, and disciplinary and grievance issues;
  • Acting as a point of contact for employees and management with HR-related questions and offering support and advice;
  • Be actively involved in recruitment by preparing job descriptions, drafting job advertisements, review applications and conducting job interviews; 
  • Perform HR administrative tasks, including drafting employment contracts and processing mutations;
  • Ensure accurate and proper record-keeping of employee information in electronic and digital format according to policy and legal requirements;
  • Support the HR Manager in translating and executing HR policies on the work floor, ensuring alignment with strategic themes such as Employer of Choice and Fit for Life, Fit for BDO;
  • Create and implement effective onboarding plans;
  • Plan and coordinate training and development programs for employees;
  • Monitor the employee performance management process in place;
  • Promote employee well-being and engagement through initiatives that support vitality, sustainable employability, and a positive work environment;
  • Assist with HR assignments for BDO clients, focusing on recruitment and selection for senior positions, and support change management, operational audits, and organizational restructuring initiatives.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in human resources;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in human resources;
  • Full understanding of HR functions (benefits, recruitment, training & development etc.) and best practices;
  • Able to translate strategic HR goals into practical solutions that support both employee needs and organizational objectives;
  • Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of labor law and HR legislation;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Good time-management skills and able to work independently and set priorities;
  • Can multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Analytic and strong problem solving skills; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and act as a connector between employees and management;
  • Conflict management and decision-making skills;
  • Able to engage in meaningful negotiation and resolution;
  • Strong ethics, reliability and able to handle confidential information with care;
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to both internal stakeholders and external clients;
  • Excellent command of the Dutch, English and Papiamento languages.
